Compadre interviewed in Landscape Architecture Magazine
Lecturer L. Irene Compadre BA08/MLA12, founder of Arbolope Studio, was interviewed for the article “Work in Progress” in the April issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine. Ten landscape architects spoke about live-work balance, contemporary design office-culture, and how they’re rewriting the rules of the profession’s work culture.
Bujan curates Kemper exhibit (Un)masking Health: Counter Perspectives
(Un)masking Health: Counter Perspectives, the Kemper Art Museum’s current Teaching Gallery exhibition, traces histories of illness and resistance. The exhibition is curated by Ivan Bujan, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in Arts & Sciences, in conjunction with his seminar “Queering the History of Health.“ The show is on view until early July.
Bechdel to receive Washington University International Humanities Prize
Cartoonist Alison Bechdel, known for her groundbreaking depictions of queer life and family relationships, will receive the 2022 International Humanities Prize from Arts & Sciences’ Center for the Humanities. Bechdel will receive the $25,000 award November 9 in the Clark-Fox Forum in Hillman Hall.
Yocom installation on view at Lambert Airport
A site-specific installation by Taylor Yocom (MFA18), the Sam Fox School’s graduate recruitment specialist, is now on view now at Lambert St. Louis International Airport. The work, titled my mom said to always have flowers around, was supported by VIA Partnership and is installed in Terminal 2.
Association for Women in Architecture + Design (AWA+D) mentioned in Architect's Newspaper op-ed
The Architect’s Newspaper published an op-ed on the Association for Women in Architecture + Design (AWA+D), a group founded in 1918 at WashU when four students were denied entry into the architectural fraternity because they were women. Later this month, the group will be planting a tree in honor of its recent centenary.
Active Transportation Month at WashU begins April 12
April is Active Transportation Month at WashU! The Office of Sustainability and Parking & Transportation will host free events and challenges for faculty, staff, and students this month to support and encourage the use of sustainable transportation, including the WashU Rides Commuter Challenge, Snacks for Cyclists, the Danforth Bike Tune-Up and Commuter Fair, and the Group MetroLink Ride. And, yes, there will be prizes!

Hoeferlin presents Living Earth Collaborative virtual seminar
Way Beyond Bigness: The Need for Watershed Architecture is a design-research project that studies the Mekong, Mississippi and Rhine river basins, with particular focus on multi-scaled, water-based infrastructural transformation and their various impacts. Mennello Museum of Art’s Contemporary Expressions: Prints from Flying Horse Editions (1996 – 2021) exhibition features work by Carmon Colangelo, the Ralph J. Nagel Dean, along with Diana Al-Hadid, Odili Donald Odita, David Humphrey, Chakaia Booker, James Siena, Jiha Moon, and others. Work will be on view through May 30.
