Transmission Lines, 2021.
The site-specific installations Transmission Lines and Holding Pattern by artist Bryce Olen Robinson (MFA-VA11), assistant manager of shops and making spaces in the Sam Fox School, are installed at St. Louis Lambert International Airport’s Terminal 2 as part of the Lambert Art and Culture Program. The program curates and commissions works of art that elevate the visitor experience, generate regional pride, and sustain the vibrant local arts community.
The process of creating the works during the COVID-19 lockdown was a meditative experience for Robinson. “Reclaiming lumber, ripping boards, sanding, shaping, chamfering, gluing, and painting—each a distraction from the world and a private world unto itself,” he said. “I held each of these materials countless times throughout the pandemic, and in doing so, they helped hold me together. ”
The work will be on view for a year. Watch time-lapse videos of the installations on Robinson’s YouTube Channel here.
