Martin Lammert Named 2024 Des Lee Gallery MFA Alumnx Resident
2024-05-03 • Sam Fox School
Martin Lammert, MFA ’22, will be the second annual artist-in-residence at the Des Lee Gallery this summer. In addition to access to space for making and showing work, Lammert will also be awarded a $2,000 unrestricted honorarium. The gallery will host an event and public hours at the culmination of the residency.
During the residency, which runs May through September, Lammert plans to build a large-scale fountain with inspiration taken from leisure, amusement parks, and waterslides. The installation will expand on a series of artworks derivative of his graduate thesis project at the Sam Fox School, which included the making of water via combustion.
About Martin Lammert
Martin Lammert earned a BFA from the University of Southern California in 2013 and an MFA in Visual Art from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Art at Washington University in St. Louis in 2022. Lammert, who lives in St. Louis, applies formal fabrication techniques with found and store-bought materials to make sculptures.
About the Des Lee Gallery
The Des Lee Gallery provides Sam Fox School students and faculty a formal gallery space for presenting exhibitions. Located in the heart of the historic Washington Avenue Loft District, the 1,300-square-foot gallery opened in 1999 and is housed in the University Lofts building, an eight-story, century-old refurbished warehouse.
The gallery is named in honor of E. Desmond Lee, a 1940 graduate of Washington University’s Olin Business School, who provided significant support for the university as well as the greater St. Louis community.
