Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts alumnus Jackson Feinknopf (MArch/MCM22) has placed second in Charette’s Architecture Thesis of the Year 2022, an international competition that recognizes student thesis projects that are “experimental, bold, promising, and unconventional.”
Feinknopf’s thesis, “Germinating the Future of St. Louis”, addresses food insecurity in St. Louis by re-envisioning a 10.5-acre site of a former supermarket into a horticulture center and contemporary food market with public programming.
He developed the thesis under the direction of College of Architecture Professor Sung Ho Kim as part of the MArch Degree Project course.
The competition was juried by Virginia Cartwright (University of Orgeon), Robert Clarke (University of Oregon), Lily Chi (Cornell University), and Giancarlo Floridi (Harvard University).
Of the top 30 thesis projects recognized, Feinknopf’s was one of only three from the United States.
