In the News: Week of February 21

Architecture alum Tianna Williams (MArch18), a design specialist at WSA, has been accepted into the 2022 AIA Columbus ARCHway program in Ohio. The mentorship program connects young architects with firm leaders in the Columbus architectural community, focusing on developing leadership skills for emerging talent and seasoned professionals.

In “Buildings Matter: Preservation Cements Our Stories and Sense of Place,” an article on St. Louis City Talk, architect Peter Tao (BA79) provides an in-depth history of the Chinese American community in St. Louis, highlighting the significance of the city’s vernacular architecture.

Artist Shayna Cohn (MFA-VA14) recently completed a permanent installation at the newly opened Meow Wolf Denver: Convergence Station. The venue describes Sparkle Cave as “a historical landmark frozen in time, a time when mother nature and her rocks decided to wear drag and throw a massive party.”

An online lecture by Esley Hamilton on Frederick Law Olmsted, Senior Landscape Architect, Author, and Conservationist, 1822-1903 is happening on the February 22, 6:30-8p CST via link. The lecture is presented by St. Louis Public Library.

Assistant professor Penina Acayo Laker is among the featured speakers of the panel Discussion with the editors of The Black Experience in Design: Identity, Expression & Reflection presented by AIGA Cleveland, happening February 23 at 5p CST via link.

Patricia Olynyk, the Florence and Frank Bush Professor of Art, will be presenting a lecture on Eco Art in a Precarious World presented by Living Earth Collaborative on February 24 at 4p via the link below.

The closing reception of the exhibition of work by lecturer Andrea Moon and instructional technician Dryden Wells will be happening on February 25, 5p CST (in-person) at Duane Reed Gallery. Work will be on view through February 26.
