Mistry Awarded Jerome Foundation Grant
Emmy-nominated animator and filmmaker Yasmin Mistry (BFA01/ BSBA01) was awarded a 2021 New York City Film, Video, and Digital Production Grant. The Jerome Foundation awarded 13 grants and 9 finalist awards this year, totaling $435,000 to early career filmmakers in New York City. Learn about Mistry’s project, Together, through the link.
Johnson Interviewed on VoyageLA
VoyageLA published this interview with Anna Elise Johnson (BFA05). Now based in Los Angeles, Johnson is currently working on a series of “Earthworks” that are created through a multilayered process of exposure to the elements and manipulation in the studio. Johnson says the work “records the topography of the ground and holds the minerals of that exact location formed by the site’s geological history.”
Marie Claire Highlights Streaming Adaptions of Work by Elovic, Schwab
WashU alumni are having a moment in the world of streaming adaptations. Alum Ariella Elovic (BFA13), author of Cheeky: A Head-to-Toe Memoir, was interviewed for this article in Marie Claire about the process of working with a comedian on an adaptation of her body-positive book. And VE Schwab (BFA09) fans can rejoice: the serial adaptation of her short story “First Kill” will soon be streaming on Netflix.
Loutopia: The Panel will feature artist Jayvn Solomon and community leaders Vanessa Cooksey (Regional Arts Commission), Peter Tao (BA79; Tao + Lee Associates), Jean Ponzi (Missouri Botanical Garden), and Catherine Hamacher (PGAV Planners). The panel will take place from 6-8p CST November 16 at TechArtista in downtown St. Louis.

Olynyk Featured at CYFEST-13 International Media Art Festival
Dark Skies by Patricia Olynyk (Florence and Frank Bush Professor of Art) will be shown at Annenkirche as part of Cosmos and Chaos at CYFEST-13 International Media Art Festival. Olynyk is additionally one of the curators of a separate part of the festival at the Stieglitz Academy of Art presented by Cyland. The work is on display through November 28.
