Three new faculty searches seek to address environmental racism in St. Louis and beyond
A new interdisciplinary hiring effort at WashU aims to recruit researchers to study environmental racism in St. Louis and other urban areas. The searches will bring three scholars to the university, including an assistant professor of landscape architecture with expertise in ecological systems, both natural and social, at the intersection of landscape architecture, architecture, and urban design. This group of new hires is part of the Office of the Provost’s Race and Ethnicity Cluster Hiring Initiative.
Hertel acquires $10,000 innovation grant from Mid-America Arts Alliance for mural project
Aleida Ruelas Hertel (MFA-VA20) is among the artists who created the mural project Building Bridges, featured in this St. Louis NPR story. The artists worked with the Latinx Arts Network STL to secure a $10,000 innovation grant from Mid-America Arts Alliance for the project, which is located on the Loop Trolley Building and intended to spark conversations about the shared African experience in the Americas.

Chaudhary named McLeod First-Year Writing Prize runner-up
Kaden Chaudhary (BS24 in Architecture) was named a runner-up for the eighth annual McLeod First-Year Writing Prize, for the essay “WashU Undergraduate Admissions: Portrayal of and Catering to Economic Diversity.”
