Hoeferlin in Landscape Architecture Magazine; Exhibit Columbus Opens
Landscape Architecture Magazine profiled the work associate professor Derek Hoeferlin will be presenting as a University Design Research Fellow at Exhibit Columbus, the biennial in Columbus, Indiana, which opens this week. Hoeferlin’s model is part of a long-term effort to create an atlas of the Mississippi River Basin. He is working to map the basin at a variety of scales while examining the control measures that make the watershed a tool for commerce.
Exhibit Columbus: 2021 Exhibition opens August 21 and will be on view through November 28. Hoeferlin will take pat in an in-person panel discussion with other University Design Research Fellows, titled Design as Habitat and Terrain, during the opening day schedule from 1-3:30p EDT August 21 at First Christian Church in Columbus, IN.
Ladue News Spotlights on Work by Bennett, Colangelo, Nadler, Stanislav
The Ladue News reviewed Bilingual: Abstract & Figurative, the summer exhibition at the Bruno David Gallery. The article highlights works by several members of the Sam Fox School community, including Carmon Colangelo, the Ralph J. Nagel Dean; Andréa Stanislav, the 2015-16 Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow; senior lecturer Heather Bennett; and associate professor Arny Nadler.
*The Architect's Newspaper* Profiles Final Phase of Notre Dame de Paris Truss Project
The Architect’s Newspaper profiled the final phase of the Notre Dame de Paris Truss Project led by Handshouse Studio, the architectural workshop co-founded by Laura and Rick Brown (MFA75). This stage of the project will involve a collaborative effort between WashU and several other universities. The truss will be raised on the National Mall and exhibited at the National Building Museum before being presented as a gift to France.
Art & Soul Series Features Luchini
Adrian Luchini, the Raymond E. Maritz Professor of Architecture, is the month’s featured artist in the Ladue News‘ Art & Soul series. He discusses the work in his solo show, Gravitas, which is on view through September 4 at the Atrium Gallery.
Remembering Robert (Bob) Pettus
Alum Robert (Bob) Pettus (AR63) passed away on July 16, 2021. A renowned photographer, Pettus’ works appeared in major architectural magazines such as Architectural Record, Architecture, Domus, and Japan Architecture, as well as The New York Times Sunday Magazine.
Olynyk Moderates Talk on Integrating Science & Art
Patricia Olynyk (Florence and Frank Bush Professor of Art, Sam Fox School) and Victoria Vesna (director of the Art/Sci Center, UCLA) will moderate Exploring the Tissue of Existence—Integrating Science and Art to Look Beyond the Limits of Our Perception, a LASER talk that’s part of the Medicine + Media Arts series. The talk will feature Bianka Hofmann, Barney Steel, and Elí Joteva. It will take place online at 11a CDT August 19.
