Spring 2016: CityStudioSTL Student Awards

Still from Jun Bae’s film Exodus.
Jun Bae, BDes16, used his funds to screen Exodus in the St. Louis Place neighborhood. The film—which Bae began in associate professor Denise Ward-Brown’s course Tale of Two Cities: Documenting Our Divides in fall 2015 and completed during his capstone course with lecturer Elisa Kim in spring 2016—tells the human story of the St. Louis Place residents who will be displaced by the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency development planned for the neighborhood. Bae spent months getting to know residents, interviewing experts, and editing the final video.
Exodus and a second film by Bae, Bob’s Tour—Understanding What We See, were screened at the St. Louis International Film Festival in July 2016. The latter film offers a striking portrait of longtime community activist and associate professor Bob Hansman, and the city he loves.
