Juan William Chávez and Alan Poma’s work, “Wak'a Garden”
Two Sam Fox School artists will show work at Laumeier After Dark, a one-night event featuring light-based art installations at the St. Louis sculpture park, Saturday, Nov. 7.
Juan William Chávez, a senior lecturer and this year’s Wallace Herndon Smith Visiting Lecturer, will have an installation co-created with Peruvian sound artist Alan Poma. Their work, “Wak’a Garden” comes to life through a special sound performance and enhanced lighting. Exploring how sound gives voice to stones and wak’as — sacred places and objects in Andean tradition — the experience invites visitors to listen in a new way.
Lecturer Matt Branham’s work, an animated holograph, blends whimsy and absurdity to create a playful, dance-informed atmosphere.
