Jared Della Valle, MArch/MCM ’96, has been named among this year’s Founders Day Distinguished Alumni Awardees. He is the CEO and co-founder of Alloy Development, a multidisciplinary, design-focused development company that works to on positively contribute to the built environment in Brooklyn through architecture and design.
Della Valle serves on WashU’s Board of Trustees and the Sam Fox School’s National Council. In 2024, he gave the keynote address at the Sam Fox School’s Recognition Ceremony, where he encouraged students to embrace possibilities beyond what they thought realistic. “I’m here to encourage you to push, to demand that you take a leap to reconsider the course you’ve carefully curated in your mind, to be open-minded to change and capitalize on serendipity, and to trust instincts, and above all, to abandon all preconceived notions of the boundaries of what you thought you could achieve,” Della Valle said. “I want you to reflect on who you are, on what you believe. And I want you to alter the course of your life and your chosen profession, and perhaps to dare to change the course of our society. Simply put, I want you to manifest what you thought was unimaginable.”
A real estate professional and architect for more than 30 years, Della Valle has managed the acquisition and predevelopment of more than three million square feet in New York City along the High Line, in the Hudson Yards, in Dumbo, and in Downtown Brooklyn. Prior to his work with Alloy, Della Valle was the president of Della Valle Bernheimer Design for more than a decade. He previously served as chairperson of the Van Alen Institute and currently serves as chairperson of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
He has taught at Columbia University, Syracuse University, WashU, Parsons School of Constructed Environments, and Lehigh University. Della Valle has widely lectured at major universities and institutions and his work has been the subject of more than 200 articles and publications including the monograph “Think/Make,” published by Princeton Architecture Press. He is a LEED-certified, licensed architect in New York State, holds a National College of Architectural Registration Boards certificate, and is a licensed real estate broker and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He earned his undergraduate degree in architecture from Lehigh University and a Master of Architecture and Master of Construction Management from WashU.
WashU Founders Day is an opportunity to reflect upon the university’s many milestones and accomplishments — and the people who helped make them possible. Celebrated since the university’s centennial in 1953, this special event has honored WashU’s distinguished alumni, outstanding faculty, and most treasured friends.
