Monika Weiss to share recent work in WashU’s Environmental Research Collaboration Series
2026-09-02 • Sam Fox School
Professor Monika Weiss will give a research presentation, “Composing for the Trees: Echoes of Daphne and Collective Healing,” Sept. 8 as part of WashU’s Environmental Research Collaboration Series through the Center for the Environment. This recent body of site-specific sound sculptures and vocal/choral performances exists with and for the natural world. Grounded in the myth of Daphne and informed by her many years of focus on the rituals of lamentation, Weiss’s research examines how environmental and gender-based violence intertwine, and how sonic lament serves as an ecological intervention.
