Several artists with connections to the Sam Fox School at WashU are taking part in Counterpublic, St. Louis’s public art triennial. They include Lecturers Anika Todd and Lynne Smith, MFA ’24; along with alumni Jamie Lee Harris, MFA ’23; Mee Jay, MFA ’19; and Rachel Youn, BFA ’17. Work by alumna Juanita McNeely, who passed in 2023, will also be shown.
Carolina Caycedo, who was this spring’s Arthur and Sheila Prensky Island Press Visiting Artist, will have work in the triennial as well as an exhibition at the university’s Kemper Art Museum this fall.
Additionally, many alumni are active in Counterpublic’s administration, including Executive and Artistic Director James McAnally, Deputy Director Kristin Fleischmann Brewer, and Community Engagement Manager Abraham Diaz. Graduating MFA students Dallas Spears and Brittni Mosby were past Counterpublic Fellows, and alumna Eva Agüero is the International Institute of St. Louis Fellow. Additionally, Lee Broughton, a member of the Sam Fox School’s National Council, serves as Counterpublic’s president.
Counterpublic’s third triennial edition, “Coyote Time,” opens Sept. 12 and will present daring new artist projects, public programs and events, and long-lasting civic initiatives centering urgent crises including climate, education, and immigration.
