2025-12-12 • Sam Fox School
The Sam Fox School’s College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design have announced the winners of the proposal competition for the Year End Show, YES26. The annual exhibition features work by graduating WashU students across all undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design.
Winners were chosen by a committee chaired by Senior Lecturer Matthew Allen. The competition offers students the experience of designing and curating an exhibition from its earliest stages, to hands-on installation, to celebrating the opening.
Graduate Winner
Across the Grain
- Michael Chmiel
- Lydia Roberts
- J.P. Stegman
- Christopher Tobin
“Across the Grain builds a spatial framework that invites exploration, dialogue, and discovery. Starting with a uniform grid, the design reveals diagonal relationships that open unexpected sightlines from one corridor to the next… It is a field of gentle wooden lines and delicate joints that encourages visitors to look sideways, linger, and find dialogue in the spaces between.”
Undergraduate Exhibition Winner
Open Fields
- Issac Evers
- Dongyue Li
- Arthur Lu
- Ryan Yin
- Zoe Zuo
“Open Fields is a celebratory infrastructure. The concrete bricks we use are simple and honest, arranged to create flexible pedestals that highlight the uniqueness of the models on display… They come together as an open field of elements, where every project stands independently while contributing to the collective whole.”
