Artist Juan William Chávez, a lecturer at the Sam Fox School and director of the nonprofit Northside Workshop, will take part in a group exhibition at 601Artspace in New York this fall. His work, “Survival Blankets,” draws upon his Peruvian heritage with its paintings of animal totems on raw linen. The work “brings together natural and human-made objects that represent spiritual practices and daily life around ancestral knowledge, longing, and recuperation.”
The exhibition, “Common Sentience,” was curated by Regine Basha and is on view through Nov. 9.
