Professor Patty Heyda’s book, “Radical Atlas: Ferguson, USA” received two reviews in the July issue of Cartographic Perspectives, the journal of the North American Cartographic Information Society. The atlas illustrates in more than 100 maps the systemic forces that had for decades affected the St. Louis suburb, leading to the explosion of activism following the killing of Michael Brown in 2014.
One reviewer shared that “every urban policy maker — and in, fact anyone working in city or suburban planning or administration in any capacity — should have this atlas part of their required reading.”
The journal’s editor shared that both reviews “find it a provocative and necessary reminder of the power of maps and the horrors of racial capitalism.“
