MFA in Visual Art candidates Maya Graine and Roy Uptain have been awarded Graduate Student Production Grants. Awarded annually to two MFA-VA students, the grants provide up to $1,000 to engage in creative work that would otherwise be out of reach.
Uptain’s “Army 2.0” parodies government-sponsored psychological operations and propaganda through multimedia performance and installation. “Combining humor and critical engagement, the project interrogates how beliefs are shaped in an era dominated by surveillance, generative AI, and ideological warfare.”
Graine’s large-scale sculptural work aims to “confront viewers with the uncanny ‘other’ of the disabled body, while drawing from personal experience as an artist living with chronic pain and illness.” The grant will allow Graine to hire an assistant for fabrication and assembly of these sculptures, helping them continue to create while managing physical limitations.
