ARCH 511-611: Architectural Design VII - “Oslo Hybrid”
The goal of this course was to create exemplary projects that are socially, economically and ecologically sustainable. On an attractive site on the banks of the Akerselva in Norway, students were challenged to design a contemporary, hybrid building with multiple public and private uses. Affordable student housing, a scarce commodity in the expensive city of Oslo, was to be a major component. In addition, the site is located in an area with an important industrial history. In recent years, most of the former industrial buildings have been converted and many open spaces along the river have been renaturalized. The semester projects related as synergistically as possible to these places and the program of the refurbished buildings.
