Bryan Beerman

Bryan Beerman is an architect, educator, founder of Create Updraft, and Lecturer in the Sam Fox School. Deeply committed to student-centered education, his teaching focuses on design foundations, architectural representation, and studio methods—empowering emerging designers with visual fluency, creative agency, and conceptual rigor.

In his creative inquiry, Bryan explores reciprocal biocentric design and regenerative ecological frameworks. Building on prior research into re-envisioning the urban coastal edge and living symbiotically with natural water systems, his work examines how architectural form, materiality, and site strategies can move beyond human-centric paradigms to actively restore native habitats, foster multi-species cohabitation, and cultivate deeper connection to place.

Prior to joining the Sam Fox School, Bryan taught full-time at Clemson University’s School of Architecture across undergraduate and graduate studios and seminars, serving as Faculty in Residence and coordinating professional experience programs (AXP, IPAL, and Co-op). Parallel to his academic roles, he spent over a decade at LS3P as an Associate Principal and Firmwide Design Leader. Within the firm’s Urban Environments group and across 12 regional offices, he led client charrettes, urban master planning, and conceptual design across diverse civic, institutional, healthcare, and faith project types—earning multiple AIA, IIDA, and ASID design awards.

Through Create Updraft, Bryan leads a studio practice that designs architecture, illustration, and storytelling to imagine new possibilities for people, ecology, and place.

Bryan earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture from Ball State University, receiving honors including the AIA Medal for Academic Excellence and the Graduate of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.) Award. He is a registered architect in South Carolina, has served in regional AIA leadership roles, and acts as a faculty mentor for student design competitions and undergraduate research grants, including WashU’s SURGE program.
