Eric Mumford

Eric P. Mumford is the Rebecca and John Voyles Professor of Architecture at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, where he also holds courtesy appointments in history, art history, and archaeology, and is a faculty scholar at the Institute for Public Health. He is an architect and historian whose research and teaching focuses on modern architecture and urbanism. His publications include “Designing the Modern City: Urbanism Since 1850,” “Defining Urban Design: CIAM Architects and the Formation of a Discipline, 1937–69,” and “The CIAM Discourse on Urbanism, 1928-1960.”

He is also currently the co-curator of the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum exhibition “Design Agendas: Modern Architecture in St. Louis, 1930s-1970s,” and is a co-principal investigator with Mónica Rivera for the McDonnell International Scholars Academy Global Incubator Seed Grants Fund, “Edges of Privacy,” research on open walkway housing.
