Alexandra Mei

Alexandra Mei is a landscape architect and educator in design. Her work crosses practice, academia, and advocacy to push toward a more environmentally just and ecologically resilient public realm. Mei’s research centers around the weathering, maintenance, and care of public landscapes, exploring their holistic lifespans to understand their effects on resource extraction and public investment.

Formerly the director of landscape architecture at Christner Architects, Mei has worked on projects ranging from park planning to site design. These include Pittsburgh’s Emerald View Park Master Plan, Cleveland’s Dunham Tavern Museum, and Detroit’s Manistique Treehouse. She is a past president of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) St. Louis chapter.

Mei graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Design with a Master in Landscape Architecture and earned a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. She has received multiple honors including the WxLA 2020 Scholar Nomination, the Harvard GSD Thesis Award, the Landscape Architecture Foundation’s Olmsted Scholar Nomination, and the Charles Eliot Traveling Fellowship from the GSD. Mei has also published and exhibited her work at Harvard University, in UC Berkeley’s Ground Up journal, and in Peking University’s LAF magazine.
