Design Justice Lunch Discussion and Workshop with Ezra Kong
On October 20, WashU alum Ezra Kong, executive director of Design Futures Forum and co-founder of Reflex Design Collective, returns to campus for a lunchtime discussion and student-focused workshop on design and social justice.
Open to all, no prior knowledge or experience required.
Ezra is a facilitator and strategist for design justice in the built environment. They are the Executive Director of Design Futures Forum and Co-Founder of Reflex Design Collective. Ezra has worked on projects ranging from facilitating the design of short term solutions to homelessness in West Oakland with unhoused residents to expanded transit in Northern California with low income communities of color. This work led them to Design Futures, where they support students find their path in creating more just worlds.
They grew up in the forests of the midwest before moving to St. Louis to attend their alma mater, Washington University in St Louis, and now live in Oakland. In addition to their work in built environment, they are a community organizer for trans and queer Asian and Pacific Islanders at Lavender Phoenix, an abolitionist for transformative justice, a science fiction nerd . Ezra has spoken at SxSW, SF Design Week, and Allied Media Conference.
