Fox Fridays: Designing with the Shaper Origin (handheld CNC)
Participants will be introduced to the Shaper Origin, a powerful, portable, handheld CNC machine for all levels of woodworking. We will demonstrate how to generate basic files in Adobe Illustrator, as well as more intuitive methods that allow the user to design “on the fly”. No digital modelling experienced is required! If you are captivated by the precision of CNC milling, but prefer the immediacy of working with your hands… this is the workshop for you.
Takeaways: Students will produce small milled drawings in relief.
Cross-disciplinary Connections: Printmaking, furniture, woodworking, mold-making, model-making
Computers in the lab have Rhino and Adobe Illustrator for participants to use.
Instructors: Bryce Robinson is a sculptor and installation artist from Ferguson, Missouri. Robinson’s practice seeks to reveal and frame the structures, histories, and politics that have defined and redefined his community.
