MFA-IVC Lecture Series: James McMullan
Leaving China Opening Reception and Artist Talk
Leaving China is a “memoir in paintings and words” by illustrator and author James McMullan. The book tells the story of McMullan’s childhood in China during World War II and how those experiences influenced his entire life, especially his painting and illustration. The essays and illustrations capture the dreamlike quality of his memories that reflect a simpler yet more exotic world from long ago. Thirty-seven illustrations accompanied by excerpts from the book are on display, and were part of the exhibition, James McMullan: Leaving Home, organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum.
Masks are highly encouraged.
