ASL Tour: Materials and Methods
Join graphic artist, photographer, and cartoonist Mark Edghill for an American Sign Language tour in the permanent collection, exploring a range of artistic methods and materials and their relationship with an artwork’s subject matter. Learn about experimental processes, unusual materials, and archival research in works by such artists as Torkwase Dyson, Max Ernst, Rivane Neuenschwander, and Corinne Wasmuht.
Following the tour, attendees are invited to socialize and enjoy a complimentary drink from the Coffee Bar.
This program is offered in conjunction with the 2022 Deaf Visual Arts Festival in collaboration with DEAF Inc. to celebrate Deaf culture and to promote accessibility to the arts. Learn more about their resources and advocacy.

About the speaker
Mark Edghill is a retired graphic artist, photographer, and cartoonist who worked for thirty-six years at Emerson Electric and AT&T Yellow Pages. He is active in various Deaf community services, including Florissant Valley Theatre of the Deaf, St. Louis Community College’s Silent Weekend, and Southwest Illinois College Sound of Silence annual weekend retreats. Edghill also serves on various Deaf social and sports committees and has mentored college students learning sign language and encouraged them to become professional sign language interpreters for Missouri and Illinois.
