Fox Fridays Basics: Rhino

Rhino is an important digital modeling tool that allows users (especially architecture students) to create their own project. Rhino newbies and experts are welcome to join this 3-hour workshop, where attendees will create and print drawings of their own digitally modeled pavilion. Attendees will receive a quick introduction to the basic commands of Rhino, and then create artistic drawings from the computer model that they produce.

Takeaways: Students will produce their own unique 3D Digital Pavilion model, and 2D Drawings of this pavilion.

Cross-disciplinary Connections: This workshop connects to any students in architecture, engineering, communication design, studio art, digital fabrication, photography, etc. Digital models from Rhino are excellent for helping users to realize their design and make beautiful drawings.

Computers in the lab have Rhino and Adobe Illustrator for participants to use.

Instructors: Chuchu Qi is a third-year undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and minors in Landscape Architecture and in Anthropology. She was involved with a project in Southern East China during her summer internship in Beijing, and she also participated in a bamboo stool construction. Borler Wu is a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a minor in Psychological & Brain Sciences. He has been involved with projects ranging from the Greater Chicago Area Public Libraries to mixed-use developments, to a 1,200-acre urban framework plan in Southern Philadelphia. Regardless of the scale or program, Borler has grown an appreciation for design that deeply investigates and collaborates within the community, and uplifts new social spaces.
