Fox Friday: Sand Casting Concrete - Everything Under the Sun
Students will learn to sand cast concrete stools. The stools will be part of the permanent public art installation Everything Under the Sun in Grand Center, St. Louis. Participants in the workshop will shape a negative form in sand and then cast into it. Sand casting is an ancient method for casting concrete. The final cast retains the texture of all marks and gestures in the sand, and we will develop surface patterns that accentuate raking light, curvature, and tactility. The stools will be approximately 24x24x15".
Instructor: Jonathan Stitelman is a senior lecturer or architecture and urban design and the Assistant Director of the Beyond Boundaries Program.
