Fox Friday: Bandhani - Indian tie-and-dye
Bandhani is a centuries-old tye-dyeing technique which is still practiced today and remains culturally important to areas in India such as Gujarat and Rajasthan. Tie-dyeing is found world over, in such forms as Shibori in Japan, and Jumputan in Indonesia. Fabric is bound or stitched to produce a resist pattern, which remains uncolored when dyed, resulting in intricate designs. In this workshop, Shweta Tambi will introduce the history of Bandhani and samples of simple techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to create designs of their own choosing, either on a garment which they provide, or on provided fabric which may be used for projects in the future - examples of sample projects will be given.
Instructor: Shweta Tambi is a textile designer/artist from Rajastan, India, currently living in University City, MO. She has previously taught at Craft Alliance.
